Jill Abram, a distinguished board-certified psychiatrist from Indiana, has dedicated 38 years to serving communities, families, and individuals with unwavering commitment and high standards in psychiatric medicine. Her specialization in child and adolescent psychiatry has marked her as a leading figure in her field. Throughout her extensive career, she has focused on healing and restoration, working closely with health professionals to provide top-notch mental health care.
Early in her career, she contributed significantly as a psychiatrist with the Homeless Mobile Team at Midtown Mental Center in Indianapolis from 1988 to 1990. She continued to make her mark by serving on the Child Team for Mental Health in Anderson, Indiana, until 1996. Following this period, she entered private practice in Fishers, Indiana, and concurrently worked at the historic Pleasant Run Children's Home in Indianapolis.
Her professional journey also led her back to Anderson, where she practiced privately for nearly seven years. During this time, she was the adolescent psychiatrist at both the Northeast Juvenile Correctional Facility and the Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility. Additionally, she provided psychiatric consulting at Fortville Christian Youth Home, showcasing her diverse expertise in the field.
Her practice expanded to Indianapolis, where she worked at the Counseling Center Christian Theological Seminary and Family Counseling Center. She also served as a consulting adolescent psychiatrist at Richmond State Hospital and was a valued member of the medical staff at Community Hospitals of Indianapolis. Further extending her reach, she consulted at the Boys and Girls Home of Alaska and was on the medical staff at North Star Hospital in Anchorage, contributing to the initiation of psychiatric telemedicine services at the Four County Counseling Center serving Peru, Kokomo and Logansport, Indiana.
Her elective professional experiences are notable as well. She has consulted with the Department of Mental Health to develop integrated care systems with the Department of Education and the Department of Families and Children, and she has contributed to the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center. Her academic pursuits included participation in the Conscience Development Research and Study Group and a Trauma and Dissociation study group.
Her academic background is equally impressive. She graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.A. from Hanover College, majoring in Chemistry with minors in Biology and Psychology, where she earned the "Long Citation for Outstanding Senior Woman." Her medical studies were at Indiana University School of Medicine, highlighted by her representation at the National Juvenile Diabetes Association and an Academic Medicine Achievement Award. Her residency and fellowship in Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry were completed at Indiana University School of Medicine, where she received the Golden Apple Award for her educational contributions.
Before retiring, she held licenses in Indiana and Alaska and was certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Since June 1991, Jill Abram has been a proud member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, continually advancing her field through clinical practice and research.
